Just A Thought

Did anyone else find it strange that Lettie's family didn't try to hide their powers from the MC?  Even though he was only seven years old in the flashback of his childhood, I would expect the family to attempt to hide their abilities to normal people.  Wouldn't they be afraid that he would tell his parents about them?  What do you guys think?

  1. I agree that it seems strange that Lettie's family was so open about their powers. I found it a little unrealistic, but I guess have magical powers unrealistic too. Anyways, I think that because Lettie and her family can tell things about people with knowing them, like knowing that the suicide note was in the mans pocket, that might be able to tell that MC is the right person to tell.

    1. That's a good observation! Maybe the MC will have a signicance to the family and they can sense that.

  2. Like what Jenny was saying, I think they were able to sense that MC wouldn't tell his parents because he was a recluse. But don't you think that, if their powers are so great, that they would have been able to sense Ursula, or even MC being in trouble? Lettie did promise to keep him safe, and he doesn't seem very safe when he's running through the fields.

    1. Yes, that's so true! It doesn't seem to add up. They would've gotten a sense that Ursula would bring evil to the MC's family and would've found a way to stop her. I think it would be an interesting twist if the Hempstock's ended up being evil instead of good. I highly doubt this happens, because the MC visits them in the beginning of the novel and they help him after the whole running away incident, but that would be intense if they ended up getting taken over by a flea such as Ursula.
